Mari Lipartias Prescription for Success:

Number 1: You must have a mentor. You must have someone who you can talk to, re-evaluate things, and give you direction. It’s really important because it’s too easy to get lost in the everyday things, and not see the bigger picture..

Number 2: We must pause sometimes just to rest, and re-evaluate things. Life changes, circumstances change, and things are not the same as they were 10 years ago. Something that was working for you may not work again.

Number 3: Don’t lock yourself into thinking that that’s the only thing you know, and there is nothing outside of it. We have a lot of other skills that we do not realize. You do not have to feel like you have to answer to anyone. If it’s something that you want to change, you should go for it.

No matter how busy I was during the day, I did not have this time limit of how much time I could spend with each patient. Even if it was really busy, I could always go back…and sit at [the] bedside for as long as was needed.

No matter how busy I was during the day, I did not have this time limit of how much time I could spend with each patient. Even if it was really busy, I could always go back…and sit at [the] bedside for as long as was needed.

I never took off to do nothing. Just to sit and re-evaluate everything and see how I feel. That was a big lesson that I learned. Those two weeks saved me, and saved my clinical career.

Its okay if your interests change, and that took a while to be okay with that.
