The Educator – Windy Cole, DPM, CWSP

Dr. Windy Cole is a native Ohioan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Cincinnati where she graduated summa cum laude. She is also an honors graduate from the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Cole has practiced in Northeast Ohio for over 20 years. She serves as the Director of Wound Care Research at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Wound Management. She has been a dedicated wound care advocate for two decades with interests focused on medical education, diabetic foot care, wound care, limb salvage, & clinical research. Her passion to help others has led her to participate in humanitarian efforts including a medical mission to Jordan in 2018 to aid the large Syrian refugee population seeking asylum from civil war. Dr. Cole has published numerous articles on these topics and is a sought-after speaker both nationally and internationally. She is a feature writer for Podiatry Management and Today’s Wound Clinic as well as a contributing writer for Podiatry Today. She is an Editorial Board member of Wound Management and Prevention, Podiatry Today, The Foot Journal and Lower Extremity Review. She is a wound care advocate on the forefront of technology-driven research. She sits on the advisory board of multiple emerging biotech companies and has been integral in collaborating on innovative research protocols in the space.

The Reverend: Marta Illueca, MD

Marta was born in New York and grew up in Central America. A physician and bi-vocational priest, she holds post doctoral graduate degrees from Cornell University Medical College, Yale Divinity School and Tufts University. Marta’s research is on spiritual wellness and healing with focusing on the use of prayer as a therapeutic intervention for chronic pain. A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, she currently is deployed to the Brandywine Collaborative Ministries in Wilmington. Marta who is fluent in Spanish, grew up in a multicultural environment, and oversees the translations of diocesan messages in the Delaware area.

The Boss: Giovanni Piedimonte, MD, FAAP, FCCP

Dr. Piedimonte has more than 25 years of experience in the leadership and management of complex healthcare systems. He is currently the Vice President for Research and Institutional Official of Tulane University, a university-wide post responsible for overseeing all aspects of research across the institution. He also holds the academic appointment of Professor with Tenure in the Departments of Pediatrics, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Tulane School of Medicine. Previously, he held the Steven and Nancy Calabrese Endowed Chair for Excellence in Pediatric Care, Research and Education, and served in multiple leadership roles at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, including Institute Chair of the Pediatric Institute, Physician-in-Chief of the Children’s Hospital, President of the Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation, Professor & Chair of Pediatrics at the Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Chief of Global Pediatric Research Operations, and Director of the Center for Pediatric Research. Before that, he served for more than 6 years as the first Wyeth Research Scholar, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at West Virginia University School of Medicine, and Physician-in-Chief of the WVU Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

The Flyer: Eric Hanson, MD, MPH

Dr. Eric Hanson is a Scientific Advisor for the biomedical industry. He has served for twenty-seven years as a scientific advisor, physician, researcher, and author. He is residency trained in aerospace and preventive medicine, and he has a Masters in epidemiology with a genetics concentration from Johns Hopkins. He served for 17 years as an Air Force physician and Senior Flight Surgeon (750hr in 36 aircraft; call sign “Genes”) with numerous operational deployments focused on aeromedical evacuation. He has managed complex multidisciplinary clinical research (highly multiplexed diagnostic assays) and diagnostic neuroimaging trials (traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, carbon monoxide).

The Spy: Lisa Gould, MD, PhD

Dr. Gould is the Associate Medical Director and Director of Research at South Shore Hospital Center for Wound Healing in Weymouth, MA. She brings her passion for research and education to her clinical practice and to the national organizations she serves, including the Wound Healing Society, the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, and the American College of Surgeons.
