The Reverend: Marta Illueca, MD

Marta was born in New York and grew up in Central America. A physician and bi-vocational priest, she holds post doctoral graduate degrees from Cornell University Medical College, Yale Divinity School and Tufts University. Marta’s research is on spiritual wellness and healing with focusing on the use of prayer as a therapeutic intervention for chronic pain. A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, she currently is deployed to the Brandywine Collaborative Ministries in Wilmington. Marta who is fluent in Spanish, grew up in a multicultural environment, and oversees the translations of diocesan messages in the Delaware area.

The Boss: Giovanni Piedimonte, MD, FAAP, FCCP

Dr. Piedimonte has more than 25 years of experience in the leadership and management of complex healthcare systems. He is currently the Vice President for Research and Institutional Official of Tulane University, a university-wide post responsible for overseeing all aspects of research across the institution. He also holds the academic appointment of Professor with Tenure in the Departments of Pediatrics, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Tulane School of Medicine. Previously, he held the Steven and Nancy Calabrese Endowed Chair for Excellence in Pediatric Care, Research and Education, and served in multiple leadership roles at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, including Institute Chair of the Pediatric Institute, Physician-in-Chief of the Children’s Hospital, President of the Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation, Professor & Chair of Pediatrics at the Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Chief of Global Pediatric Research Operations, and Director of the Center for Pediatric Research. Before that, he served for more than 6 years as the first Wyeth Research Scholar, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at West Virginia University School of Medicine, and Physician-in-Chief of the WVU Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

The Activist: Marion Mass, MD

Dr. Marion Mass is a pediatrician who has practiced in suburban Philadelphia for 21 years. She is a founding member and Co-Chair of Practicing Physicians of America, an organization dedicated to protecting the physician’s ability to serve their patients and to confront unnecessary and overbearing regulations that limit their ability to advocate for those patients. Dr. Mass is also a writer with works being published in The Wall Street Journal The Hill and The Washington Times in addition to advising policy shapers at the state and national level. She serves on the editorial board of her county newspaper, on the board of The Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership, and as a delegate to the Pennsylvania Medical society.  She guest blogs on various sites regarding teaching organic gardening to children.
