The Organizer: Kimberly Jackson, MD

Dr. Kimberly Funches Jackson is the founder of Physicians Working Together and pioneer of National Physicians Week. Throughout her career as a board-certified physician, “Dr. J.” has dedicated her life to the care of others. She’s the medical director and co-owner of her Family Medicine & Pediatrics clinic and has provided medical care to adults and children for over a decade. Her commitment to the well-being of the community extends beyond her practice. Dr. J is a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority maintains the social responsibility of Dr. J is an active member in her church and she’s also an active board member for several community-based organizations.

Physicians Working Together started in June of 2015 as a Facebook group. PWT has over 8700 members who are comprised of male and female physicians and medical students from 50 states, Caribbean islands and even other countries. Today PWT’s mission includes a three-prong approach of Physician Advocacy, Patient Connection, and Community Outreach and Education.

The Storyteller: Emily Silverman, MD

Dr. Emily Silverman is an internist at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and creator/host of The Nocturnists, a medical storytelling live show and podcast where healthcare workers share stories of joy, sorrow, and self-discovery. Her writing has been Published in The New York Times, The Virginia Quarterly Review, McSweeneys, and others. She is currently working on a book with the support of a 2018 fellowship from MacDowell. She lives in San Francisco with her husband, some musical instruments, and many plants.

The Pioneer – Mari Lipartia, MD

Dr. Lipartia was born and raised in the country of Georgia. After graduating from medical school with honors, she moved to the United States to continue her training. She completed her training in internal medicine and has been in clinical practice for over 15 years.

More recently, she embarked on a new path combining her passion for food, wellness, and internal medicine. Dr. Lipartia is one of few obesity medicine specialists who have undergone rigorous academic fellowship training in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine.

She founded NUMEO Medical to combine evidence-based excellence in Obesity Medicine care and offer a comprehensive and personalized approach to her patients.

The focus of her work is on reversing metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, and metabolic syndrome.
